Australian Open 2019: Simona Halep vs Sofia Kenin: Where to watch & live stream details
World No. 1 Simona Halep did not have the best of starts to her campaign at the Australian Open 2019 on Tuesday. Struggling for much of her first round showdown with Kaia Kanepi, she looked to be heading for a repeat of their 2018 US Open meeting, where the Estonian shocked the Romanian.
But Halep managed to regroup just in time and calmed her nerves. During the third set, she had a different body language altogether -- one that was more apt for a French Open champion.
She found her range and her confidence as she raced through her decider to avert a first round exit for the second Major in a row. And Halep might need all that poise in her next match for she faces the 52nd ranked Sofia Kenin. Lower-ranked she might be, the 20-year-old American has come to the first Slam of the season riding high on her maiden WTA title victory at Hobart.
This will be their first meeting so the top-ranked player, who is without a coach, won't be knowing what to expect. But it's in her best interest that she figures out Kenin quickly and saves herself the ordeal of playing yet another three-setter.
