Emma Navarro vs Caroline Wozniacki

preview

Third-seed Emma Navarro of the United States and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark will lock horns in what promises to be an exciting quarterfinal of the Bad Homburg Open on Thursday, June 27.

Navarro has had a decent clay-court season, which saw her reach the second round of the Madrid Open and lose in the first round of the Italian Open. However, she then won three matches at the French Open before losing in the fourth round. Navarro then lost in the first round of the ecotrans Ladies Open in Berlin. However, she has won both her first two matches at the Bad Homburg Open in straight sets, against Jacqueline Cristian and Peyton Stearns, respectively.

Wozniacki, meanwhile, did not play at Roland Garros. She lost in the first round of each of the Madrid Open and the Birmingham Classic, but has turned things around at the Bad Homburg Open. She has won her first two matches in the tournament, including a surprise win over seventh-seed Elina Svitolina in the first round. At thirty-three, she appears to be enjoying her run.

Emma Navarro vs. Caroline Wozniacki

prediction

Navarro is a decade younger than Wozniacki and that is going to be a crucial factor in determining the fate of the match. The 23-year-old American should fancy her chances of putting it past the veteran Dane should the match extend to three sets. The longer the match goes, the lower Wozniacki's chances of reaching the semifinals get.

However, to her credit, Wozniacki is quite a robust player and can still pack enough punch in her shots to trouble any opponent. On grass, her shotmaking could be a good weapon, but Navarro has a solid enough defence to deal with that.

Overall, Wozniacki should be a formidable proposition, but Navarro should be able to sneak through in a close match.

Pick: Navarro to win in three sets.
