Ben Shelton vs Andrey Rublev preview
Sixth seed Ben Shelton is set to face top seed Andrey Rublev in a highly anticipated quarterfinal showdown at the 2024 Swiss Indoors on Friday, October 25. The winner will advance to face either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Arthur Fils in the semifinals.
Shelton arrived in Basel on the back of a third-round finish at the Shanghai Masters, where he defeated Denis Shapovalov and Roberto Carballes Baena before falling to eventual champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
He began his Basel campaign with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry, followed by a hard-fought victory over Stan Wawrinka, edging the Swiss veteran 7-6(2), 7-5, thanks to his strong serve.
Rublev, meanwhile, has struggled to close out matches recently despite making deep runs at tournaments. At the Stockholm Open last week, he suffered a disappointing quarterfinal exit to Wawrinka in two tight tie-breaks.
Rublev opened his Swiss Indoors campaign this week with a routine 6-3, 6-2 win over Nuno Borges in the first round. He overcame a stern challenge from Alejandro Tabilo in the second round, ultimately sealing a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory.

Ben Shelton vs Andrey Rublev prediction
Ben Shelton and Andrey Rublev are set for an exciting quarterfinal clash at the 2024 Swiss Indoors, with both players eager to secure a semifinal spot. Neither has dropped a set as of yet at the tournament, making this a highly anticipated and evenly-matched contest.
Shelton, despite some inconsistency leading up to Basel, has been in impressive form this week. He's won around 84% of his first-serve points across his two matches and is yet to face a break on serve. With 17 aces and a commanding presence at the net, winning 78% of points when moving forward, Shelton's impeccable attacking instincts are a key weapon in his arsenal.
Rublev, while not at his peak recently, has also started strong in Basel. He’s averaged around 88% of first-serve points won and fired 18 aces so far. He has been particularly sharp at the net, dropping just one point while coming forward all week. His solid winners-to-unforced-errors ratio is also a happy sight given how his game has been marred with errors of late.
Rublev holds the edge in this first-ever meeting between the two with the superior indoor record. Shelton’s form and prowess on fast indoor courts could make this a tightly contested battle, however, with the American expected to give the Russian a real challenge.
Pick: Rublev to win in three sets.
