Elena Rybakina vs Veronika Kudermetova preview

Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan will take on Veronika Kudermetova of Russia in the second round of the ecotrans Open in Berlin on Thursday, June 20. Rybakina had to endure a shock defeat at the hands of Jasmine Paolini in the French Open quarterfinal. Before that, she reached the semifinal of the Madrid Open, won the title at the Stuttgart Open, and was the runner-up at the Miami Open.

She also won the Abu Dhabi Open title earlier this year. The 25-year-old Kazakh is ranked fourth in the world at the moment and remains one of the more consistent players on the WTA Tour.

On the other hand, Kudermetova lost in her first match at the Madrid Open, Italian Open as well as the French Open. Hence, she had a very ordinary clay-court season. The 27-year-old reached the second round of the 's-Hertogenbosch after winning her first match in the tournament.

Elena Rybakina vs Veronika Kudermetova prediction

One can assume that this match is going to be quite one-sided. Rybakina is by far the more accomplished player of the two and should be hungry for some success after the reversal at the French Open. Barring Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, there is probably no player as consistent as the Kazakh on the WTA tour.

However, it does not mean that Kudermetova is incapable of putting up a fight. The Russian is ranked 35th in the world and will try to reverse the tide in Berlin, as far as her disappointing run this season is concerned. With the quality of her groundstrokes and overall game, Rybakina remains the odds-on favorite to win the match and move into the quarterfinal.

Pick: Rybakina to win in straight sets.
