Novak Djokovic, Zheng Qinwen, and Carlos Alcaraz were part of the celebrations on Arthur Ashe Kid's Day at the 2024 US Open. The event was a part of the Fan's Week festivities that took place before the US Open, which will begin on Monday, August 26.
Arthur Ashe was the first, and till now only, African-American male singles player in the Open era to win the US Open (1968), the Australian Open(1970), and the Wimbledon Championships(1975).
Let's take a look at some of the best moments of the event that was held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium at Flushing Meadows in honor of the tennis legend.
# Novak Djokovic aims perfectly to hit a target in the stands
One of the challenges at the Kid's Day involved hitting a cutout of a tennis ball in the stands from the court. A clip posted by the US Open's official channel on X (formerly Twitter) showed Novak Djokovic up for the challenge, taking aim from the court.
Fans gathered around the target and watched the ball sail toward them, eventually hitting the bull's eye. They erupted in cheers and applause in the clip for the 24-time Grand Slam champion who is known for hitting the mark with his shots.
Some fans can then be seen attempting to catch the ball as a keepsake as the Serb raises his arms in celebration.
# Zheng Qinwin's precision lands the ball on-point
In a reverse-of-sorts from Djokovic's challenge, Zheng Qinwen engaged in a game of hitting the ball from the stands, trying to make it drop into an inflatable pool on the court.
In the clip, Zheng hits the ball with precision as the ball's speed and bounce eventually help it make its way into the pool.
"I can't believe it" Zheng Qinwen in the clip [0:17].
She can also be seen raising her arms and blowing a kiss in celebration.
# Carlos Alcaraz showcases his nimble footwork and scores a goal with a giant tennis ball
In another clip, Carlos Alcaraz was part of a fun challenge that involved kicking a giant tennis ball from one end of the court, trying to hit it into a goal placed on the other end.
In the video, the World No. 2 can be seen warming up before showing his nimble footwork and taking a short run-up toward the ball. The crowd falls silent as Alcaraz kicks the ball which curled in the air before making its way into the goal.
The Spaniard was all smiles as he celebrated Cristiano Ronaldo-style, much to the delight of the crowd.
At the 2024 US Open, defending champion Novak Djokovic will clash with Radu Albot on Tuesday, August 27, while Carlos Alcaraz takes on Li Tu on Wednesday, August 28 in the opening round of the 2024 US Open.
