Bhupathi and Bopanna win Paris Masters

BNP Paribas Masters - Day Seven

PARIS, FRANCE – NOVEMBER 04: Mahesh Bhupathi (L) and Rohan Bopanna of India pose with their trophy after victory against Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Jean Julien Rojer of Netherlands in the Mens Doubles Final on day 7 of the BNP Paribas Masters at Palais Omnisports de Bercy.

The Indian duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna won the Paris Masters last night, beating Bopanna’s old partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Dutchman Jean-Julier Rojer (7-6, 6-3) in the finals.

The pair, who have been dogged by controversy since their refusal to partner Leander Paes at the Olympics, finally had something to celebrate, after winning their second title of the year as a team.

The pair failed to break their opponent’s serve even once in the first set, wasting 6 break points in the process. But they came back well enough to win the tie-breaker.

The second set proved much easier for the two as they broke their opponents’ serve twice, after saving a break point of their own, to win the match quite comfortably in an hour and 24 minutes.

The pair will feature in the ATP World Tour Finals in London, where they’ll début as a team for the first team. Both have experience of the tournament already however, with Bhupathi having finished as runner-up four times, once with with Max Miryni and thrice with Leander Paes.

Bopanna qualified for the Finals for the first time last year, with Aisam Qureshi.
