Leylah Fernandez vs Ajla Tomljanovic preview
Leylah Fernandez and Ajla Tomljanovic will lock horns in an exciting quaterfinal encunter at the 2024 Birmingham Classic.
Fernandez, the sixth seed at this year’s tournament, breezed past Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-1, 6-1 in the opening round before running into the crafty Viktorija Golubic. The Swiss pushed her Fernandez to the limit, but the latter managed to prevail in three tight sets 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.
The Canadian now holds a positive win-loss for the season at 13-12 and will look to keep the winning momentum going.
Tomljanovic, on the other hand, is slowly finding her footing after yet another bout with injuries that has kept her away from action in recent times.
Last week, she made it to the quarterfinal of an ITF tournament after having come through qualification rounds. She has since posted two main-draw wins over Anna Blinkova and Zhu Lin to bring her season’s win-loss tally to 9-9.

Leylah Fernandez vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction
Neither player has had a great run in the first half of the season and they will thus be determined to turn things around on grass.
Fernandez has made good use of her lefty serve that has won her well over 70% of the points in the last two matches equips her well on the surface. The slider out wide has won her a fair few pressure points and she will just need to keep trusting the process.
The same also holds true for her opponent Ajla Tomjlanovic, who has reached the Wimbledon quarterfinal twice in her career. This win is even more crucial for her as it will mark her first semifinal appearance this year.
That said, the lack of match practice could well come back to haunt her.
Prediction: Fernandez to win in three sets
