Alexander Zverev vs Sebastian Korda preview
Second seed Alexander Zverev will take on Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open 2024.
After an opening-round bye, Zvervev commenced his campaign here with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Jordan Thompson. He was up against 13th seed Holger Rune in the third round.
The German outplayed his younger rival with ease in the first set and broke his serve twice to take it. Zverev was on the cusp of victory as he secured a break of serve in the eighth game of the second set to go 5-3 up. However, Rune stopped him from closing the match in the next game.
Rune then saved a couple of match points on his serve at 6-5 to force a tie-break. He fended off another three match points in the tie-break before Zverev finally got the job done for a 6-3, 7-6 (5) win.
Korda was drawn against Vasek Pospisil in the first round, and the latter retired just three games into the match due to an injury. He faced fellow American Taylor Fritz in the second round and beat him 6-4, 7-6 (4) to reach the third round.
Sixth seed Casper Ruud stood between Korda and a place in the quarterfinals. However, the Norwegian pulled out of the tournament after falling sick, which paved the way for the American to move into the last eight without playing a single point.
Alexander Zverev vs Sebastian Korda head-to-head
This will be the first career meeting between the two, so the head-to-head stands at 0-0.

Alexander Zverev vs Sebastian Korda prediction
Zverev was on the brink of an easy win when Rune made things difficult for him. However, he withstood the Dane's final stand to beat him in the end. He won 77 percent of his first serve points and struck 18 winners against 17 unforced errors.
It has been a rather light week for Korda in terms of match play. Pospisil retired minutes into their first-round match, and Ruud didn't even take to the court in the previous round. He did play at a great level against Fritz in the second round. The American won the Citi Open last week and is currently on a seven-match winning streak.
However, not being battle-tested could come back to haunt Korda. Zverev has enough match play under his belt this week, and he's quite experienced at competing in the latter stages at this level.
The American, meanwhile, is vying to reach his first Masters final. While he has momentum on his side, Zverev's proven track record could ultimately tip the scales in his favor in this encounter.
Pick: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets.
