Andrey Rublev vs Alexei Popyrin preview
Fifth-seeded Andrey Rublev will go toe to toe with Alexei Popyrin of Australia in the final of the 2024 Canadian Open. So far, Rublev has had a mixed season in 2024. Before coming into the Canadian Open, the Russian had a 28-15 record having won the Hong Kong Open and the Madrid Open. However, the World No. 8 had shock early-round exits at the French Open and Wimbledon.
At the Canadian Open, the fifth seed got a bye in the first round. He then defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round in straight sets. Rublev backed it up with another straight-set victory over American qualifier Brandon Nakashima in the third round.
Rublev's most impressive performance came in the quarter-finals, where he defeated World No. 1 and top seed Jannik Sinner in three scintillating sets. He then went past Italy's Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-final, to book a place in his sixth final at the ATP Masters 1000 level.
The Canadian Open was a breakthrough event for Alexei Popyrin in 2024. This will be the Australian's first final of the year, and his third final of his career. He began the campaign with a straight-sets victory over Tomas Machac in the first round. The Australian then caused two upsets in the following rounds, beating 11th-seeded Ben Shelton in the second round, and the 7th-seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the third round.
Popyrin's biggest win came in the quarter-finals, when he returned from a set down, to win against the fourth seed, Hubert Hurkacz. He then defeated an in-form Sebastian Korda in the semi-final, to advance to his maiden ATP Masters 1000 final of his career.

Andrey Rublev vs Alexei Popyrin prediction
This will be Rublev's 26th career final, with the Russian having a previous 16-9 record in tournament finals previously. This will be the Russian player's third final of the year, and his second ATP Masters 1000 final in 2024, after having won the Madrid Open in May.
This will be Popyrin's third career final, with the Australian winning his previous two finals at the ATP level. Popyrin's last final and title came at the Croatia Open last year, where he defeated former Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka in three tight sets.
The experience of playing on the big stage, and the current ranking give Rublev an edge in this upcoming final.
Pick- Rublev to win in straight sets.
