Frech made her first career WTA final in Prague but was defeated by compatriot Magda Linette. She then reached the quarterfinals in Monterrey before suffering a first-round exit in New York. The Pole secured her first career title in Guadalajara, beating Olivia Gadecki in the final. She dominated all-week barring a minor hiccup against Ashlyn Krueger in the second round.

Frech in contrast heads into the match with a 22-23 record and one title to her name. She has performed particularly well since the start of the North American hardcourt swing and has enjoyed her time on the hardcourts.
