Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina preview
Andrey Rublev will take on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 China Open.
Rublev, who is the fourth seed at this year’s tournament, came through a battling win in his opening round against another Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta to improve his season’s win-loss to 38-18.
The Russian has enjoyed a great season in 2024, having won the biggest title of his career at Madrid. Another Masters 1000 final came his way in Canada and he also made the quarterfinals at Cincinnati and the fourth round at the US Open.
Davidovich Fokina, meanwhile, has struggled for form all season and it now reflects in his negative 16-18 win-loss for the season so far.
The Spaniard has not won consecutive main draw matches since the Atlanta Open in July and was on a three-match losing streak coming into Beijing. He, however, managed to turn over a new leaf, ousting the home favorite in a three-set battle.

Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prediction
The second-round encounter will pit Andrey Rublev's power-packed hitting against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s dogged game.
The Spaniard possesses a lot of variety and mixes in drop shots, slices and even the occasional underhand serve to keep his opponents guessing. He has, however, not been able to bring together all the smaller elements of his game consistently this season.
Rublev, on the other hand, has been posting one big result after the other. While a Slam breakthrough has eluded him, the Russian has won big on the Tour.
The quick conditions in Beijing will favor Rublev’s high-risk game and if he can keep his error count in check, he should be able to sail through.
Prediction: Rublev to win in straight sets
