Ashlyn Krueger vs Lulu Sun preview
The second round of the 2024 China Open will see two rising stars of the WTA circuit Ashlyn Krueger and Lulu Sun lock horns with each other. Krueger has had an under-par season on the WTA circuit this year. The young American player has not made any deep runs at any of the events that she has played and often struggled to qualify for main draws. She last played at the Guadalajara Open, losing against Magdalena Frech in the second round.
Kreuger has an 8-13 record on hard courts in 2024, with her best result coming at the US Open, where she reached the third round, before losing to Liudmilla Samsonova. In Beijing, the American player defeated home favorite Wang Yafan in three sets in the first round.
Lulu Sun is having her best season Tour, as she broke into the Top 40 on the WTA rankings. The Kiwi put up an inspiring performance at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, reaching the quarterfinal, but losing to Donna Vekic in three sets. She defeated high-caliber players like Qinwen Zheng and Emma Raducanu on her way to the last eight at the All-England Club.
After her success in London, the World No. 40 followed it up with her maiden WTA final on the hard courts of the Monterrey Open, losing to Linda Noskova. Sun has also played on the ITF Tour extensively this year, winning two titles in Florida and Roehampton, defeating Maya Joint and Heather Watson in the respective finals.

Ashlyn Krueger vs Lulu Sun prediction
Before 2024, Krueger had a mere 31 percent win ratio on hard courts in her career. However, the American player won her maiden title on the surface when she won the Japan Women's Open last year, defeating Zhu Lin in the final. However her form on hard courts this year has been underwhelming.
Sun reached her maiden final on hard courts as well. The Kiwi player has been a proficient hard-court player on the ITF Circuit, reaching 10 finals, and winning six titles.
However, since her Wimbledon run, Sun has shown great confidence in her matches and is one of the seeded players at the China Open. As a result, she will have a slight advantage going into this match.
Pick- Lulu Sun to win in three sets.
