Jannik Sinner vs Bu Yunchaokete preview
Top seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner will face home favorite wildcard Bu Yunchaokete in the semifinals of the 2024 China Open on Tuesday, October 1. They will kick off the evening session at the Capital Group Diamond Stadium, following the semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.
Sinner entered Beijing with a 55-5 singles record this season, fresh off his second Grand Slam triumph at the US Open. He claimed the Cincinnati crown a couple of weeks before the New York major and hasn’t lost a match on tour since Montreal, almost two months ago.
Sinner began his title defense in Beijing with an impressive 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback win against Nicolas Jarry in a tough first-round match. He was once again forced to rally from a one-set deficit in the next round, defeating Roman Safiullin 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the quarterfinals against Jiri Lehecka, Sinner dominated the first set, while showcassing his experience in a tight second set to secure a 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory.
Bu announced himself on the tour with his impressive run to the Hangzhou semifinals last week. He defeated Hugo Gaston, second seed and defending champion Karen Khachanov, and Mikhail Kukushkin before losing to compatriot Zhang Zhizhen in his first-ever ATP semi-final.
Bu, awarded another wildcard for Beijing this week, began with a surprise victory over Chengdu champion from last week Juncheng Shang in the first round, coming from behind to win 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-4. He followed it up by upsetting Chengdu runner-up and sixth seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-4, before defeating fourth seed Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

Jannik Sinner vs Bu Yunchaokete prediction
After a couple of tight matches, Sinner was back to his best in the quarterfinals. He served exceptionally well, winning 88% of points on his first serve, hitting seven aces, and not facing a single break point. He came up clutch in the descisive moments, saving two break points and converting two of four opportunities, while also achieving a 100% success at the net.
Bu, meanwhile, had a tough opener but has been in dominant form since, eliminating two seeds in his previous two encounters. In his last match, he won 80% of points on his first serve and remained unbroken, saving all four break points he faced. Like Sinner, Bu also had a 100% success rate at the net. He hit 13 winners to 12 unforced errors.
Both players have been in excellent form on hard courts recently. Sinner is riding a 15-match winning streak, while Bu has lost just one of his last seven ATP matches.
Sinner will be the favorite to win this contest, given his superior form this season and greater big-match experience. While Bu, with the support of the passionate home crowd, could challenge him, overcoming the Italian might prove a step too far.
Pick: Sinner to win in straight sets.
