Cincinnati Masters 2024: 5 favorites to win the men's singles title ft. Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner

The main draw of the Cincinnati Open gets underway on Monday, August 12. It is the second Masters 1000 tournament in the North American hardcourt swing and is one of the most important tournaments as it takes place just before the US Open. It is one of three Masters 1000 tournaments which are played in the United States.

Novak Djokovic, the gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open. However, other top male players will take part in the tournament.

Here we take a look at five favorites for the Cincinnati Open among the men:

#5. Andrey Rublev:

It is a bit surprising that Rublev has won both his Masters 1000 titles on clay so far, despite arguably being a better player on hardcourt. He has reached the semifinals of the ongoing National Bank Open in Montreal, Canada as well. Rublev might end up winning his first Masters 1000 title on hardcourt in a few days.

Rublev's powerful forehand is a great weapon to have on any surface. It alone makes him one of the favorites to win the title. Being one of the most consistent players on the Tour, the 26-year-old Russian will be in contention to win the title in Cincinnati.

#4. Alexander Zverev:

Zverev has had a quite successful year so far, winning the Italian Open title and reaching the final of the French Open. The 27-year-old German has been most successful on clay by winning the titles in Madrid and Rome in the past, but his robust game makes him a formidable proposition on hardcourt as well.

Zverev has reached the quarterfinal of the ongoing National Bank Open and might end up winning the title. Either way, his serve and backhand will make him one one of the favorites to win the title in Cincinnati.

#3. Daniil Medvedev:

Medvedev has been one of the best players on hardcourt for quite a few years now. The former US Open champion has, however, seen a slump in his form in the recent past. Still, he will be one of the players to beat in Cincinnati.

The 27-year-old Russian has won the Miami Open title and finished runner-up at the Indian Wells Open in the past. Thus, Medvedev remains a successful player on American soil. His powerful serve and court coverage make him one of the favorites in Cincinnati as well.

#2. Jannik Sinner:

Sinner started the current year with a bang, winning multiple titles including the Australian Open title, his maiden Grand Slam title. He also won the Miami Open title but was a bit below-par in the clay and grass court tournaments thereafter.

He will be gunning for glory once again on his favorite surface in Cincinnati. When in form, Sinner can be almost unbeatable with his powerful serve, robust groundstrokes off either wing and much-improved net play. The Italian will be 23 soon and is supposed to be entering his prime as a tennis player now. He will be one of the favorites in Cincinnati as well.

#1. Carlos Alcaraz:

Alcaraz, the 21-year-old from Spain, has already done a lot at a young age. He has won four Grand Slam and five Masters 1000 titles in his fledgling career. Alcaraz has won both the French Open and Wimbledon titles this year and also the silver medal in the singles at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

He skipped the National Bank Open in Canada thereafter and should be fresh for the tournament in Cincinnati. His game hardly has any weakness and thus he remains the favorite to win the title in Cincinnati.
