The quarter-final lineup at the 2024 Cincinnati Open will feature a match between the fifth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz and the home favorite Frances Tiafoe. Hurkacz is having a good year in 2024, having won 38 of the 53 matches played so far. The Pole has won one title, winning the Estoril Open by defeating Pedro Martinez in the final. He also reached the final of the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle but lost to Jannik Sinner.
At the Cincinnati Open, Hurkacz got an opening-round bye due to his higher seeding. He had to come back from being a set down to win against Japanese Qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round. After winning the first set comfortably, Tiafoe squandered multiple match points in the second set tiebreaker. However, he was able to keep his composure and close the match out in a third-set tiebreaker.
