Amanda Anisimova vs Caroline Dolehide preview
Former World No. 21 Amanda Anisimova will take on Caroline Dolehide in the quarterfinals of the Citi Open on Friday.
Anisimova has only participated in seven tournaments on the main tour this year. After a fourth round loss against Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open, she took a short-term break from tennis until April. The American reached the second round of the French Open following her return, where she lost 6-2, 6-1 to Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets.
Anisimova has been clinical at the Citi Open so far. She entered the main draw via the qualifiers and then cruised past Sloane Stephens and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first two rounds. The 22-year-old outsmarted the Russian Pavlyuchenkova in a gripping three-set bout, 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-4 to secure a quarterfinal berth.
Caroline Dolehide, meanwhile, has had an average season so far by chalking up 12 wins from 30 matches, including a quarterfinal run in the Birmingham Classic. She also reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open, where she lost to Yuan Yue in three sets, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(2).
The American entered Washington on the back of a disappointing first round exit in Wimbledon, at the hands of Coco Gauff. She instantly made amends by outfoxing Lesia Tsurenko in the first round and then outsmarted Daria Kasatkina in the second. Dolehide defeated the Russian Kasatkina in two hours and 13 minutes, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.

Amanda Anisimova vs Caroline Dolehide prediction
Amanda Anisimova is starting to find her range in Washington following a series of ordinary results on tour. She finally looks poised to make a deep run and gain some valuable points in the WTA Rankings. The American grinded out a tough win against Pavlyuchenkova in the second round, winning 81% of her first serve points and rocketing 17 aces compared to the Russian's six.
Dolehide, on the other hand, has shown a lot of fight to chalk up solid results on the main tour this year. The 25-year-old is constantly improving her game and is close to making a significant impact on tour. She saved eight break points in the previous round against Kasatkina and will feel confident after eliminating the second seed.
Dolehide's defensive skills will be put to test by Anisimova's formidable all-around game, especially from the baseline. Considering their record on hard courts and results at the highest level, Anisimova should be able to solve this riddle and enter the last four.
Pick: Anisimova to win in three-sets.
