Sebastian Korda vs Jordan Thompson preview
Fourth seed Sebastian Korda will take on Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals of the Citi Open on Saturday.
Korda has had an ordinary season so far considering his high standards. He's chalked up 24 wins from 40 matches, including a runner-up finish in the Libema Open. He also reached the semifinals of the Adelaide International and the Queen's Club Championships, where he lost to Tommy Paul.
The American entered Washington on the back of a disappointing first round exit in Wimbledon at the hands of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. He started his campaign by outsmarting Cristian Garin in the opening bout and then brushed aside Thanasi Kokkinakis en route to the quarterfinals. Korda received the check mark mid-way through the third set as Kokkinakis was forced to retire due to injury.
Jordan Thompson, meanwhile, has had an impressive season so far by amassing 25 wins from 42 matches including a title-winning run in the Los Cabos Open and a runner-up finish in the Atlanta Open. He also reached the semifinals of the Brisbane International and the Queen's Club Championships, where he lost to Lorenzo Musseti.
The Australian had one hand on the trophy in Atlanta but Yoshihito Nishioka stood in his way in the finals. He started his campaign in Washington by cruising past Reilly Opelka and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard en route to the quarterfinals. Thompson defeated the Frenchman Perricard in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.

Sebastian Korda vs Jordan Thompson prediction
Sebastian Korda will feel gutted to have not lifted a title this year and have a significant impact at the Majors. He had a promising grasscourt swing barring the result in Wimbledon and will be hopeful to be more clinical on tour. The American is one of the most talented youngsters around with an appealing all-around game.
Thompson, on the contrary, has raised his level on the men's tour this year. He captured the first ATP title of his career in Los Cabos and was one set away from adding another in Atlanta. The Australian likes to indulge in long rallies before making his move and has improved his decision-making skills on court.
Both players won around 70% of their first serve points in the previous match, but were presented a solid test by their opponents. The one willing to convert their half chances and play a positive brand of tennis will have the upper hand in this bout. Considering their game styles and dependable record on hard courts, Korda will be a slight favourite to come out on top and enter the last four.
Pick: Korda to win in three-sets.
