David Ferrer and Maria Sharapova knocked out of US Open

Fifth seed Maria Sharapova suffered a third round defeat to Caroline Wozniacki at the 2014 US Open. The Russian was knocked out in three sets by the number 10 seed. Wozniacki took the lead to win the first set 6-4 but Sharapova found her way back by winning the second set 6-2. However, the Dane would regain the momentum as she took the deciding set 6-2 to win the match.
Fourth seed David Ferrer of Spain was also a major casualty at the third round of the US Open. Ferrer was knocked out in four sets by Giles Simon. The Frenchman took the third and fourth sets 6-1 and 6-3 to win the match after the two exchanged the first two sets by an identical score line of 6-3.
Second seed Roger Federer dropped the first set against Marcel Granollers. However, the Swiss quickly regained composure and blew away his opponent by winning the next three sets 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.
Grigor Dimitrov survived a scare after losing the first set against David Goffin 0-6. The seventh seed took the next three sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the fourth round.
