Davis Cup proposals will cut matches to best of three
Davis Cup matches will be cut to a best-of-three-sets format if reforms unanimously endorsed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) are approved later this year.
The ITF's board of directors met at Indian Wells this week and supported proposals to change the formats of both the Davis Cup and Fed Cup.
A statement from the organisation read: "At their meeting in Indian Wells, the ITF Board of Directors unanimously endorsed a package of comprehensive reforms for Davis Cup and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas.
"These include Davis Cup matches being played over three sets rather than five sets following a review of current match formats. Further discussions on the implementation of best-of-three-sets matches across either two or three days are continuing with all stakeholders.
"All recommendations will be put to the ITF AGM in August 2017, with all changes requiring a formal vote of approval."
