Death threat to Roger Federer: History repeats itself?
As humanity, with each passing day, ironically the only emotion we’ve got to get more acquainted with is our civilization’s deplorable demon-ism. Our day begins in the company of coffee as we sit eying the breakfast headlines. But despite the appetizing, welcoming name of a new dawn, we’ve long got accustomed to the dark genre of stories dished out by our media.
But this morning one such piece of news was at its zenith and I for one couldn’t digest it.
I just hoped it was a dream, but then realized that most nightmares are fought awake!
The news flashed – “An unnamed blogger in China was found to have voiced his intentions to kill Roger Federer, currently in the midst of his tournament – China open.”
In the attitude of Hercule Poirot, the most popular detective of Agatha Christie, ‘Murder is best solved in the gaze of motive!’
Hence sitting back, I tried analyzing as to what led to the birth of a demon in this blogger who desired to kill Federer; the pole star that added life to all our dark nights, an unparalleled hero who gave spirit to a sport, soulful life to a racquet, transformed ferocious brute hitting to ballet, and unmistakably the sporting god to many.
Apparently, it seems that his biggest boon also turns out to be his curse!
It reminds me of the episode from history; the infamous case of the Monica Seles’ stabbing by an ardent obsessed worshiper of Steffi Graf. Wonder if in the same vein, it’s a Djokovic’s restless frantic fan, Murray’s deeply-emotional follower, or Nadal’s impatient die-hard fan ready to kill. Or in the least plausible scenario, I’m tempted to assume, it’s a Chinese patriot who can’t resign his fate to the hard fact that his country somehow has failed to find the ace in men’s tennis as yet!
Either way, they say ‘Becoming popular isn’t too difficult, for acting insane is one sure cheap ticket to fame!’
Thankfully, a thick blanket of security has been assured by the country’s Tennis Federation to Federer for all his matches and stay.
Let’s sit back and indulge in the master’s delightful game while ‘this sensational blogger in search of fame, resorting to shame, stamps his name in the hall of lame.’
I just hope and pray this false alarm doesn’t disrupt the king’s concentration, lest that coward’s tall claim earn him his desired reward of the defeated king’s crown. Most importantly, the last thing any ardent follower of the sport would desire is an unfortunate tragedy that repeats itself, robbing us of a once-in-a-lifetime wholesome tennis spectacle called Roger Federer!
As a Federer follower and more importantly a human being with a heart, it rather felt as a feath threat to me. And I wouldn’t be wrong to believe that you too share my thoughts!
