Djokovic, Serena arrive at Wimbledon eyeing records
London, June 21 (IANS) Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and United States legend Serena Williams are heading into Wimbledon this year on the hunt for records.
Djokovic, who won the Australian Open and French Open titles, currently holds all five Major titles in men's tennis, reports Efe.
The 29-year-old is trying to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win a calendar-year Grand Slam.
Djokovic needs to win the titles at Wimbledon and the US Open to become only the second man in the Open Era to pull off the feat.
The Serbian star beat Swiss great Roger Federer 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (10-12), 6-4, 6-3 in last year's final to win his third Wimbledon title.
Federer, the World No.3 and a seven-time Wimbledon champion, and British World No.2 Andy Murray, who won the title at the All England Club in 2013, are also in the hunt.
On the women's side, the 34-year-old Serena is out to defend her title and add a seventh Wimbledon trophy to her collection.
Last year, Serena beat Spain's Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the grasscourt event.
The 22-year-old Muguruza got a measure of revenge earlier this month when she beat Serena 7-5, 6-4 in the French Open final to win her first Grand Slam.
Serena came up short last year in her bid to win a calendar-year Grand Slam.
The top seed is vying for her 22nd Grand Slam singles title, which would equal German legend Steffi Graf's Major haul and leave her just two shy of Australian Margaret Court's all-time record.
The hard-hitting World No.2 Muguruza, Australian Open champion and World No.4 Angelique Kerber of Germany, and rising American star Madison Keys, who just broke into the Top 10, are among the other players to keep an eye on at the All England Club.
Wimbledon starts on June 27 and ends on July 10.
