World No. 7 Jasmine Paolini will square off against Katie Boulter in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Rothesay International.
Paolini had a memorable clay swing, which she concluded with a runner-up finish in singles and doubles at the French Open. After an intense clay season, the Rothesay International marked her first tournament on grass.
Paolini received a bye into the second round as the third seed and faced Elise Mertens for a spot in the last eight. The Italian pulled ahead 5-2 thanks to an early break in the first set. However, her opponent retired after that due to an injury, thus sending her into the quarterfinals.
Boulter beat Petra Martic 6-1, 7-6 (8) to reach the second round, where she faced fifth seed Jelena Ostapenko. The Brit raced to a 5-1 lead in the opening set but fumbled while trying to close out the set.
Ostapenko went on a three-game run and saved six break points in the process as she tried to claw her way back. However, Boulter managed to serve out the set on her second try to put herself in the driver's seat.
Boulter led by a break twice in the second set but Ostapenko negated her advantage to even the score. The Brit upped the ante towards the end as she swept the last three games of the match to secure a 6-4, 7-5 win.

Paolini didn't get a chance to test herself in her first match on grass due to Mertens' mid-match retirement. Boulter, on the other hand, gave a good account of herself to oust the ever-dangerous Ostapenko.
The Brit's return of serve helped her out a lot, and she remained solid on her own serve as well. She was unfazed by her opponent's powerful ball-striking and matched her shot for shot. She struck a total of 28 winners compared to 16 unforced errors.
Boulter has certainly established her credentials on grass over the last couple of years. She already defended her title in Nottingham over a week ago and seems to be rounding into form with Wimbledon on the horizon.
