Dominic Thiem vs Quentin Halys preview
Former US Open champion Dominic Thiem will take on World No. 80 Quentin Halys in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Estoril Open on Friday.
Thiem scored a three-set win over Sebastian Ofner to set up a second-round date with eighth seed Ben Shelton. The Austrian fell behind 2-0 in the first set, but reeled off the next six games in a row to clinch the set.
Thiem carried the momentum into the second set too as he quickly raced to a 5-1 lead. He wrapped up the proceedings soon after to complete a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Halys, meanwhile, knocked out home favorite Nuno Borges in the first round. Awaiting him in the second round was fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut. Both players remained steady on serve in the opening set, leading to a tie-break.
Bautista Agut led by 4-2 in it, but Halys flipped the script to come out on top in the tie-break. The Spaniard started the second set on a strong note as he jumped to a 3-1 lead.
Halys once again fought back to level the score. He then broke Bautista Agut's serve in the 11th game to go 6-5 up. He served out the proceedings with ease in the following game to win the match 7-6(5), 7-5.

Dominic Thiem vs Quentin Halys prediction
Thiem played one of his best matches in a long time to defeat Shelton in the previous round. It was just his third win of the season and the first time he has won back-to-back matches this year.
Halys also nabbed one of the best wins of his career by ousting Bautista Agut in the second round. The Frenchman staged a decent comeback in the second set to secure the win.
Both players served quite well in the previous round, winning over 80% of their first-serve points. Halys also blasted 14 aces compared to just a solitary ace for Thiem. The Frenchman's serve is quite the weapon, even on clay.
Thiem's forehand has held up quite well so far, though Halys can match him in that department quite well. The former US Open champion is an excellent claycourt player.
After a tough start to the year, Thiem seems to be finding his footing on clay. Halys can be a tough opponent to deal with, but now that he has some momentum on his side, the Austrian should be able to advance further.
Pick: Dominic Thiem to win in three sets.
