Federer threatened in China
Roger Federer was at the receiving end of a death threat in China, with an unidentified person claiming online that he planned to kill the World No.1 Swiss.
The claim was posted on a local blogging site called Baidu, and even featured a photo-shopped image of a masked executioner.
Federer is participating in the Shanghai Masters for the first time since 2010, and his security has now been beefed up.
Tournament officials have confirmed that security will be upgraded at the official tournament hotel as well, and all other players’ security too will be increased.
