3 former tennis superstars whose presence lit up the US Open 2024 ft. Andre Agassi

The US Open has always been a magnet for top stars in sports, Hollywood, politics, and well-known names from other walks of life, and the 2024 edition is no different. Several tennis greats, including Andre Agassi, have made appearances in New York this year, delighting fans from the stands.

The 2024 US Open is approaching its conclusion, with the semifinals of the men's and women's singles now set and the final of the tournament on September 8. Many celebrities have graced the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre this year and enjoyed high-voltage action between the biggest names in tennis.

With that said, let's take a look at three former tennis players whose presence lit up the US Open 2024:

#3 Roger Federer

Swiss maestro Roger Federer made his much-awaited appearance at the 2024 US Open on September 3. Federer is a five-time champion at Flushing Meadows, winning all five titles on the trot between 2004 and 2008, and last played at the tournament in 2019. This year, he returned to New York to witness Aryna Sabalenka and Zheng Qinwen's quarterfinal match.

Looking dapper in an all-black outfit, Federer received a rousing welcome from the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 43-year-old was also present in one of the stadium suites during Frances Tiafoe's quarterfinal win against Grigor Dimitrov.


#2 Serena Williams

Serena Williams has always been the center of attention at the US Open ever since her debut in 1998. The American legend is a multiple-time champion at the tournament, winning the singles title six times (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014), the doubles title twice with sister Venus Williams (1999 and 2009), and the mixed doubles title in 1998 with Max Miryni. She played her last match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium two years ago.

Williams has continued to make appearances at the tournament and was seen in the stands on multiple days during the 2024 edition. The former World No. 1 was spotted at Flushing Meadows on August 31 when she mingled with current World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Williams was also present in the suites at the Arthur Ashe Stadium during Grigor Dimitrov's fourth-round win on September 1 and was captured talking to Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.


#1 Andre Agassi

American tennis great Andre Agassi has always been involved in the US Open since his retirement from the sport in 2006. At the 2024 US Open, the 54-year-old was part of the Fan Week festivities prior to the main event and paired up with Carlos Alcaraz to play a men's doubles exhibition match on August 22. Agassi and Alcaraz lost to Novak Djokovic and John McEnroe in a fun-filled match that delighted the fans.

The former World No. 1 is yet to be seen in the stands during the main draw action. Andre Agassi won eight Grand Slam titles in his career, out of which two came in New York. The American took home the year's last Grand Slam in 1994 and 1999. His last appearance at the tournament came in 2006 when he reached the third round.
