Fifth seeds Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova will face 11th seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in the women's doubles final at the French Open on Sunday (June 9). They teamed up for the very first time for the claycourt Major.

The pair from the United States and Czech Republic started the claycourt Major strongly with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win over Anna Dalinina and Xu Yifan before triumphing 6-1, 6-2 over the Czech pair of Miriam Kolodziejova and Anna Siskova.

They then locked horns with 10th seeds Ena Shibahara and Wang Xinyu in the third round and won 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. Gauff and Siniakova continued their dominance to thrash 16th seeds Miyu Kato and Nadiia Kichenok and reach the semifinals.

Here, Coco Gauff and Katerina SIniakova faced eighth seeds Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk and conceded their first set of the tournament. However, they bounced back to register a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win and reach the French Open final.

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, on the other hand, have had quite the purple patch that started from the Italian Open, which they won after defeating Coco Gauff and Erin Routcliffe in the final.

The Italian duo started the claycourt Major with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Hungarian-Russian pair of Irina Khromacheva and Timea Babos, and followed it up with a 6-4, 7-6(7) win over Bernarda Pera and Magda Linette.

They then thrashed Amina Anshba and Anastasia Detiuc 6-2, 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals. Here, Errani and Paolini got the better of Daria Shnaider and Emma Navarro with another straight-sets win (6-3, 6-3) to book their place in the semifinals.

The Italian pair faced Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Marta Kostyuk in the last four of the French Open, and the latter took the lead after winning the opening set comfortably.

However, Errani and Paolini bounced back strongly and won the next two sets to seal a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory and qualify for their maiden Grand Slam final as a team. For Erranil this was a Major final of any sort for the first time since 2014.

Coco Gauff / Katerina Siniakova vs Sara Errani / Jasmine Paolini prediction

While Gauff and Siniakova are the higher-ranked seeds, Errani and Paolini have been together for a while and the two have been in impressive form lately.

Gauff and Siniakova have both done very well in doubles over the past couple of years and look very formidable as a duo. While they served more double faults compared to aces early in the tournament, they managed to accumulate seven aces in their semifinal encounter against Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk.

Errani and Paolini are both pretty good on clay and have both had some incredible moments on the surface at the Italian Open and the French Open. The pair will be high on confidence given their run of form, not to forget Paolini, who is in the singles final as well.

With the doubles quality of all four players, we could have an exciting match on the cards. Errani and Paolini have had an inspired run over the last three weeks but there is a fair chance of the latter not being at her strongest mentally if she loses the women's singles final, which could happen. Gauff and Siniakova could cash in on this and win the women's doubles title at the French Open.

Pick: Gauff / Siniakova to win in three sets.
