Fourth seed Elena Rybakina will face Arantxa Rus in the second round of the 2024 French Open on Thursday, May 30.
Rybakina kicked off her campaign against Belgium's Greet Minnen in the first round on Tuesday. Minnen got off to the perfect start, breaking Rybakina to love in the very first game. Rybakina, however, leveled things up in the fourth game. She went on to break twice more to seal the first set.
It was Rybakina's turn to start brightly in the second set, as she raced to a double-break lead. She went on to break twice and served for the set at 5-1. Minnen fought back to take the next two games, but it was Rybakina who eventually sealed an emphatic 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Rux, meanwhile, kicked off her campaign in the French capital against three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber. Rux took the attack to the German from the get-go and was rewarded with a break of serve in the fourth game. The pair traded a couple of breaks before Rux sealed an emphatic first set with a blistering down-the-line backhand on Kerber's serve.
A tight second set ensued, but it was Rux once again to break first with a brilliant backhand volley. She went out to serve out the match with a gritty hold of serve in the ninth game to seal a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Elena Rybakina will take on Arantxa Rus' in a highly anticipated second-round encounter that promises plenty of action. Both players opened their account in the French capital with emphatic performances and will look to continue in the same rich vein of form.
Rybakina played a near-perfect first-round match except for her minor slip-up while serving for the match. She bossed the proceedings from the back of the court and looked dangerous on serve.
Rux, too, played a brilliant opener, presenting the best version of her unconventional game. She attacked the net brilliantly and was equally potent on the return. She will have to remain as aggressive against Rybakina if she is to have a chance of challenging her.
