Third seed Carlos Alcaraz will take on fourth seed Alexander Zverev in the French Open final. Both players will be aiming to win their first title at the Claycourt Major.

Alcaraz entered the tournament at the back of just one prior claycourt appearance at the Madrid Open, where he reached the quarterfinals. The Spaniard had injury issues with his forearm earlier but recovered in time for the French Open.

He started the tournament with a dominant 6-1, 6-2, 6-1 win over J.J. Wolf before defeating the resilient Jesper de Jong 6-3, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Alcaraz then notched up straight-set wins over 27th seed Sebastian Korda, 21st seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and ninth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas to set up a semifinal clash against Jannik Sinner.

The Spaniard lost two out of the first three sets but staged a fine comeback to win the match 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and reach his maiden French Open final. It's also his third Major title clash.

Alexander Zverev entered the French Open on the back of a second title at the Italian Open. The German started the Claycourt Major with a 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-3 win over Rafael Nadal and followed this up with another straight-sets win over David Goffin.

Zverev then faced Tallon Griekspoor and survived a scare from the Dutchman to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3). Next up for him was 13th seed Holger Rune, and he found himself in a tough spot, as the latter led 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 after the first three sets.

However, the German produced fine tennis to register a 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-2 win to book his place in the French Open quarterfinals against Alex de Minaur. He defeated the Aussie 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-4 to set up a semifinal clash against Casper Ruud.

The World No. 4 found himself set down before the Ruud was unable to maintain his intensity due to what he said was a stomach bug. Zverev eventually registered a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 win to reach his second Grand Slam final.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev prediction

Alcaraz and Zverev are both among the best players on clay and have looked in terrific form lately. So, we could see a thrilling final between the two.

Alcaraz has looked back to his best after the issues with his forearm earlier during the clay season. The Spaniard has played quite aggressively lately and will look to maintain that intensity when he takes on Zverev. He has also produced some moments of impressive defense and his drop shots are among the most effective ones on tour.

Zverev has a very solid serve, that has fetched him 64 aces so far at the 2024 French Open. He will look to fetch as many free points as possible, as they will come in more than handy against someone of Alcaraz's quality. Zverev's serve will have to be as effective as it can.

The German's movement on clay is among the very best and his aggression will be crucial in order to counter Alcaraz. However, he has played a few five-setters and while it's good practice ahead of a fixture against a top player, he could also be facing the physical after-effects.

Carlos Alcaraz was aggressive, but he was also very resilient against Jannik Sinner when needed. If the Spaniard can replicate that, he should be able to bag his maiden French Open title.

Pick: Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.
