Paula Badosa vs Yulia Putintseva preview
Former World No. 2 Paula Badosa will take on Yulia Putintseva in the second round of the 2024 French Open on Thursday.
Badosa was drawn against 26th seed Katie Boulter in the first round. The Spaniard dealt the first blow in the opening set to go 4-2 up but fumbled her advantage immediately, losing the next four games and with it, the set.
Boulter found herself in Badosa's shoes in the next set as she led 4-2 but the latter swept five of the next six games to snatch the set from her. The two were on even footing for most of the third set until the Spaniard broke the impasse. She snagged a break in the 10th game to wrap up a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win.
Putintseva flagged her French Open campaign against 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, a former finalist in Paris as well. The first set was a walk in the park for the Kazakh, who claimed it for the loss of only one game.
Putintseva raced to a quick 4-0 lead in the second set, a deficit that proved to be too much for Stephens to recover from. The Kazakh kept her nose in front until the end to score an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Paula Badosa vs Yulia Putintseva prediction
Putintseva made light work of Stephens in the previous round, handing the American her earliest exit at the French Open since her debut here in 2011. She didn't lose her serve even once, and hit 19 winners against 12 unforced errors.
Badosa let the first set slip out of her grasp against Boulter but recovered quickly to make a winning start to her campaign in Paris. Her error count was higher than the number of winners she hit, though she committed fewer mistakes as the match progressed.
The Spaniard won her first couple of matches against Putintseva in straight sets. Unfortunately, she wasn't at her best when they met for the third time and had to throw in the towel halfway through the match.
It's the same story for Badosa this year as her health issues have often impeded her from playing continuously at a high level. However, she seems to be in a better place now. Putintseva has been in good form and has an affinity for clay but the Spaniard should be able to overcome any challenge presented by her opponent.
Pick: Paula Badosa to win in three sets.
