Sofia Kenin will lock horns with Clara Tauson in the third round of the 2024 French Open on Friday, May 31.
Kenin kicked off her campaign against German veteran Laura Siegemund in the first round. She dropped the first set but turned it up a notch in the next two sets to eventually seal a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.
She went up against crowd favorite Caroline Garcia in the second round and landed the first blow in the fifth game. Another break in the ninth game courtesy of a blistering down-the-line forehand helped her seal the first set. She came out firing early in the second, jumping to a 3-1 lead. That break proved decisive as she wrapped up a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Tasuon opened her campaign in the French capital with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory over German veteran Tatjana Maria in the first round.
She went up against ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko in the second round. Both players started strongly on serve and forced a tie-breaker in the opener. It was Tauson, however, who took the set with a blistering cross-court forehand.
The 2017 champion started the second set strongly, breaking in the very first game. The pair exchanged a couple of breaks before Ostapenko served out the set in the tenth game. The third set began with four breaks of serve in the first six games. Tauson broke one final time in the eighth game before going on to seal a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 win.
