Fourteenth seed Tommy Paul is set to take on twenty-third seed Francisco Cerundolo in a tantalizing third-round encounter at the 2024 French Open on Saturday, June 1.
Paul has been scintillating so far in the French capital, picking up from where he left off in Rome. He opened his campaign with a comfortable 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 win against Pedro Cachin.
Up against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in the second round, Paul broke twice in the first set before serving it out without a fuss. He was far more clinical in the second set, winning it without dropping a single game. Another clinical display in the third set helped him seal an emphatic 6-1, 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Cerundolo, meanwhile, opened his campaign with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 victory against Yannick Hanfmann in the first round.
He took on Filipe Misolic in the second round. A double break in the first set helped him seal it in no time. The pair battled it out in a tight second set, taking it to the tie-breaker. Cerundolo, however, proved much stronger on the bigger points and raced to a 2-0 set lead.
A flawless performance in the third set saw Cerundolo shun his opponent with an emphatic 6-2, 7-6 (2), 6-0 win.
