Gael Monfils added another casualty to his belt as he battered the 9th seed Grigor Dimitrov, 6-1, 6-3 in the quarter-final of the Monte Carlo Masters on Friday. The 28-year-old, who entered the tournament as a wild card, has been in sublime form as he took out Federer in the third round, beating 6-4, 7-6(5) and now Grigor “Baby Federer” Dimitrov in the quarters.
Monfils won 55 points of the 90 played, as he outclassed his opponent in all departments clocking better first and second serve win percentages, saving all 2 break points and converting all 4 break points against the Bulgarian.
The Frenchman will now face Tomas Berdych in the semifinals, who won his quarter-final against Milos Raonic after the Canadian had to retire due to a foot injury before even completing a set, with the Czech leading 5-2 at the time. In the other half of the draw, Novak Djokovic plays the Croatian Marin Cilic and Rafael Nadal plays his compatriot David Ferrer in the quarter-finals.
