Taylor Fritz vs Marcos Giron preview
After a first-round bye, World No. 9 Taylor Fritz will take on compatriot Marcos Giron in the second round of the 2023 Geneva Open.
Fritz commenced his clay swing on a strong note by reaching the semifinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. He defeated Stan Wawrinka, Jiri Lehecka and Stefanos Tsitsipas before losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev. The American made it to the last four of the BMW Open after that as well.
With wins over Christopher O'Connell and Cristian Garin, Fritz reached the fourth round of the Madrid Open. He was favored to win against Zhizhen Zhang as well, but was stunned by the Chinese player in three sets. The 25-year-old then crashed out of the Italian Open in the second round.
Giron, meanwhile, faced Alexander Bublik in the first round here. The opening set was over in a flash as the American didn't drop a single game en route to claiming it. A lone break of serve towards the end of the second set sealed the match in Giron's favor as he won the contest 6-0, 6-4 in an hour.

Taylor Fritz vs Marcos Giron prediction
Giron made a fast start to his campaign in Geneva as he barely broke a sweat over the course of his win over Bublik. He didn't face a single break point and won 83% of his first-serve points.
Fritz's loss to Hanfmann at the Italian Open was quite surprising, as was his defeat to Zhang in Madrid. He'll be keen to get back to winning ways, with the French Open just around the corner.
Fritz and Giron's last couple of matches have gone the distance. The former edged out the latter earlier this year in Dallas. The 24-year-old was aided by some strong serving, but while indoor courts further enhance his serve, the opposite happens on clay.
Giron has proved to be quite resistant to Fritz's offensive baseline play at times, but the former's level has been quite up and down this season. The World No. 9 has been more consistent, so expect him to make a winning start in Geneva.
Pick: Taylor Fritz to win in three sets.
