Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Matteo Berrettini preview
Top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will lock horns with sixth-seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini in the semi-final of the 2024 Swiss Open.
The 2024 season has not gone particularly well for the Greek player before the European Caly-court swing. However, Tsitsipas turned his results around on the red dirt, winning the title at the Monte-Carlo Masters and making the final of the Barcelona Open.
At the majors, Tsitsipas' performances have been underwhelming. He lost to Taylor Fritz in the quarter-final of the Australian Open, despite being the higher seed. The shocking loss came at Wimbledon when the Greek lost to Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round. The best result in a major for Tsitsipas came at Roland Garros, where he made the quarter-finals before losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
At the Swiss Open, Tsitsipas received a bye in the first round. He secured straight-sets victories over Hamad Medjedovic and Fabio Fognini in the next two rounds.
Matteo Berretini has had a curtailed season in 2024 due to injuries. Despite that, the Italian made it to two ATP finals in the year, clinching the title at the Morocco Open against Roberto Carballes Baena. Even though he lost in the second round of Wimbledon, Berrettini acquitted himself well in a tight four-set battle against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
The sixth-seeded Italian defeated Pedro Cachin in the first round of the Swiss Open. He then dispatched Daniel Elahi Galan in straight sets in the second round. Berrettini notched up another impressive victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals over two tight tiebreak sets.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Matteo Berrettini prediction
Tsitspas has an impressive record on clay in his career so far. The Greek has won five titles on the surface and has a career-win ratio of 77 percent. Even at the French Open, Tsitspas has a record of 26-8 and reached the final in 2021, losing to Novak Djokovic after winning the first two sets.
Berrettini has proven credentials on clay as well. The Italian has won four titles on the red dirt, including the one in Morocco this year. He is a past champion at the Swiss Open, as the Italian won both the singles and doubles (with Danielle Bracciali) titles in 2018. In the singles, he defeated Roberto-Bautista Agut in the final.
Being the top seed, and the dominant head-to-head Tsitsipas should be able to win the match. However given the form of Berrettini, this match has the potential to be a three-set thriller.
Pick - Tsitspas to win in three sets.
