Matteo Berrettini vs Marcos Giron preview
Recent grasscourt finalist Matteo Berrettini will lock horns with Marcos Giron for a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Halle Open.
Berrettini, who received a special exemption to enter the draw, opened his campaign with a straight-sets win over Alex Michelsen. With that, his season’s win-loss record improved to a steady 10-3.
The Italian had shown flashes of his best tennis in Stuttgart, posting wins over the likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Roman Safiullin, and Denis Shapovalov before falling against Jack Draper in the summit clash.
Giron, meanwhile, scored a big upset win over Andrey Rublev in the opening round. The American was in complete control of the contest, breaking his opponent twice en route to a 6-4, 7-6(5) win.
The 2024 season has not been the best for Giron, who came into the grass swing with a negative win-loss of 12-13. On grass, he won a match against Andy Murray in Stuttgart before losing to eventual champion Draper in the second round.

Matteo Berrettini vs Marcos Giron prediction
Both Berrettini and Marcos Giron possess similar power-packed games and were on top of their opening-round encounters.
Berrettini, however, held serve with a little more ease. He thundered down 13 aces and won an impressive 81% points behind the first delivery and will look to replicate the numbers in his next match.
Giron was not far behind with nine aces and 78% first serve points won, but he also benefited from Rublev’s erratic display at times.
With both men playing well, this contest could well go down to the wire. That said, grass has always been a happy hunting ground for Berrettini (a former Wimbledon finalist) and his recent run of form makes him a favorite to come out on top.
Prediction: Berrettini to win in three sets
