Playing on grass ahead of Wimbledon, Federer lost out in Stuttgart to Dominic Thiem

The Halle Open, also known as the Gerry Webber Open, is an ATP500 event currently underway in Halle, Germany. World No. 3 Roger Federer is the top seed at the grass court tournament. It is known to be the Swiss Maestro’s favoured surface – he has won seven of his seventeen Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon.

Despite this, however, the Swiss was involved in a shock loss to Dominic Thiem at the semi-finals of the Mercedes Cup, where Thiem would go on to defeat Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the finals to win his first ever grass court title.
