Zverev opened his title defense with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jesper de Jong from the Netherlands on the back of four break points. The German, however, claimed the second and third sets to complete the comeback 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
He came face-to-face with China's Zhang Zhizhen in the quarterfinals. He kept his serve unchallenged and broke the eighth seed from China three times to earn a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Martinez, on the other hand, stunned the Italian sixth-seed Matteo Arnaldi in his opener. He defeated Arnaldi 7-6(4), 6-1 with his disciplined tennis to reach the second round, where he overcame Frenchman Ugo Blanchet 6-4, 0-6, 7-5.

Alexander Zverev vs Pedro Martinez prediction
Zverev has fared well on clay in the 2024 season thus far. He couldn't produce his best tennis at the Monte-Carlo Masters and Madrid Open, exiting both tournaments from the Round of 16 but claimed the Italian Open men's singles title in May.
Further, he finished the magnanimous French Open as the runner-up, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in a final that extended to five sets. Overall, he's on a 16-4 win-loss record on clay this season.
Martinez, on the other hand, has won 11 out of the 16 tour-level matches he played on clay so far in 2024 and hasn't won a title yet. However, he registered his career's first top-10 win by defeating Casper Ruud in the semifinals of the Estoril Open in April before losing to Hubert Hukacz in the final.
Hence, Martinez can prove to be a tough challenge for Zverev but the latter is likely to reach the final of the 2024 Hamburg European Open due to the kind of form he has been this season, especially on clay.
Pick: Alexander Zverev to win in three sets.
