Have achieved my target at Wimbledon: Li Na
London, July 3 (IANS): China’s Li Na said here that she has achieved her target at Wimbledon despite losing to Polish fourth-seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the quarters.
The 2011 French Open champion was beaten 6-7(5), 6-4, 2-6 Tuesday on the Centre Court, a match between two of the highest-ranked players left in this year’s Championships, reports Xinhua.
“I have finished coach Carlos’ assignment. I have tried my best and I don’t think there is any regret,” said Li Na.
The 31-year-old, who led Radwanska 6-4 in their previous meetings, has never entered the Wimbledon semifinals since her debut in 2006. She had previously reached the quarterfinals twice, in 2006 and 2010.
The match was interrupted by rain twice and the roof was closed eventually. She said that she was satisfied with her performance in the tournament.
“It was really pretty good, at least better than the last two years. I also proved so many things on the court,” she said.
She said her coach Carlos had asked her to come to the net, tactics she rarely used in the past. Statistics showed that she came to the net 71 times during the match.
“Maybe today I came to the net much more than my whole life,” she said.
The 31-year-old said she will play her next tournament at Toronto in four weeks and will not watch Wimbledon again this week.
“I will get out of here as soon as possible. It’s very tough after you lose a match and still pay attention to the tournament. I always leave after it,” she said.
