Holger Rune's mother Aneke expresses pride in Dane's passion, willpower and determination; declares her unwavering love for her son

Holger Rune's mother Aneke recently penned a heartfelt message to her son, showering praise on his remarkable passion, willpower and determination.

Rune has struggled with his form lately, having won only one match since his quarterfinal defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. His on-court woes continued at the recently concluded Stockholm Open, losing to Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets in his tournament opener.

Amid his slump, the 20-year-old made a significant change to his coaching team, enlisting the expertise of tennis legend Boris Becker. The German took over as Rune's head coach, joining the Dane's mother Aneke and performance coach in his entourage.

Holger Rune's mother Aneke recently reshared a fan's post on social media, which depicted Rune passionately yelling during a match. She described the photo as a testament to the Dane's passion, willpower, determination and hard work. She also declared her unconditional love and pride for her son and encouraged him to always remain true to himself.

"This is Holger. This is passion. This is willpower. This is determination. This is hard work. PROUD of you @holgerrune. Never change. Love you always 💙," she posted on her Instagram story.

Rune reshared his mother's post and signaled his gratitude for her kind words.

"❤️," he posted on his Instagram story.

In a recent appearance on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast, Holger Rune's mother Aneke opened up about how the Dane's ambitions have changed over time. She also spoke about his current aspiration to win a Grand Slam title.

"Now we all wish to get step-by-step, the same when we started senior, then he [Holger Rune] wanted to win 15,000 and then 25,000 and then it was Challengers. And then it was ATP 250, Masters 1000 and now it's Grand Slams. He really wants to win Grand Slams," she said.

She acknowledged the challenges of winning a Major title and disclosed that the 20-year-old was focusing on improving his physical conditioning and developing the consistency required to achieve his ultimate goal.

"And it’s not just something you do, it's not that easy. So you have to work on specific things in your game and your physique in order to be able to manage five sets. If you want to win, you really have to be good. Not just in four but in seven matches, which is the challenge, so this is what he is working on," she added.

Aneke also expressed her strong belief that it was only a matter of time before Rune won his maiden Grand Slam title.

"But every time Holger puts up a goal, then he reaches his goal. So it's just a matter of time when we get the Grand Slam I guess," she said.
