"I think it's very romantic to do something with Steffi Graf, it doesn't matter what" - When Andre Agassi and German defined romance in their marriage
Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf once opened up about what a perfect romantic moment looked like for each of them. Agassi emphasized that it was essential to engage in activities that brought them closer, both emotionally and spiritually.
Agassi and Graf began dating in 1999 and tied the knot in a private ceremony in Las Vegas two years later. The couple then welcomed their son Jaden in 2001, followed by their daughter Jaz in 2003, all while keeping the romance alive in their relationship.
In a 2006 interview with Freundin, Steffi Graf admitted that while she and Andre Agassi rarely found time alone together since the birth of their children, when they did, she cherished classic romance gestures like enjoying wine by their fireplace at home.
"Well, yes. I think every person has a romantic bent. Mind you, since we have our children Jaden Gil and Jaz Elle, it is admittedly rather seldom that Andre and I have time totally alone for each other. And when we do, then we enjoy it classically, for example with a good glass of wine in front of our fireplace at home in Las Vegas," Graf said.
Conversely, Agassi pictured romance as an intimate candlelit dinner or watching the sunset together. However, the American quickly clarified that what truly mattered was the sense of closeness and trust, which was why he found engaging in activity with Graf to be romantic.
"Whereby for me romantic means much more than a candle-light dinner or watching a sunset," Andre Agassi said.
"Closeness and trust. I think it's very romantic to do something with Stefanie. It doesn't matter what, creating a perfume or going for a walk... There are so many things which bring you totally together spiritually and emotionally," he added.
Steffi Graf also acknowledged Agassi as her 'soulmate,' highlighting that they didn't need words to understand each other.
"Yes, no question. We tick the same, understand each other without words," Graf said.
Andre Agassi: "It's a gigantic happiness to be married to this woman, Steffi Graf is the best thing that could happen to me"
During the same interview, Andre Agassi shed light on the secret behind his and Steffi Graf's 'dream couple' reputation, emphasizing the importance of choosing the right life partner.
Agassi described the German as the "best thing" to ever happen to him and disclosed that their relationship was built on mutual love, friendship and discovery, expressing his belief that these qualities were the prerequisites for a successful marriage.
"One must have the right partner, then everything works. And although we are married already now for over four years, we discover each other anew everyday. There are so many more good days than bad," Andre Agassi said.
"Our relationship is built on love, friendship, and fairness in being together everyday. Actually a requirement for every marriage. I think it's a gigantic happiness to be married to this woman -- she is the best thing that could happen to me," he added.
Andre Agassi also shared that he felt an instant "magic" connection with Steffi Graf from the start. While Graf took a bit longer due to her "reserved" nature, she too quickly recognized how special their bond was.
