"If I am ever in the same room as Roger Federer, probably find it pretty hard to stay composed" - Australian cricket star Ellyse Perry

Sharing space with Roger Federer would make even the usually calm Ellyse Perry lose her composure. The Australian Women's Cricket team star, herself one of the most accomplished players in sporting history, recently said that Federer is someone by whom she would be 'starstruck.'

Perry has been part of eight World Cup winning teams so far, and she even won the Commonwealth Games gold medal as part of the Australian team at the Birmingham Games last year. The 32-year-old, who is currently in India for the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL), expressed her admiration for Roger Federer in an interview with WPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore.

"If I am ever in the same room as Roger Federer, probably find it pretty hard to stay composed," Ellyse Perry said when asked if she ever feels starstruck.

Perry has represented Australia in both cricket and soccer but she is also a tennis fan, and had earlier called Federer the sportsperson she admires most. The Australian recently won the ICC Women's T20 World Cup for the sixth time in her career.

Federer, meanwhile, retired from pro tennis at the Laver Cup in September last year. He is currently in talks to take up the role of commentator and analyst for the BBC's broadcast of Wimbledon later this year.

If he does end up taking on that role, the Swiss maestro will be seen in a never-before avatar at the most successful Grand Slam tournament of his illustrious career.

Roger Federer recently reiterated his intention to be part of the 2023 Laver Cup, which will be held in Vancouver, Canada. The 20-time Grand Slam champion will be involved in Team Europe's bid, albeit in a non-playing role.

While Federer will not don the cap of team captain as Bjorn Borg is set to return in that role, the Swiss great is expected to be a mentor for the players.

Federer had one of the most emotional farewells in sporting history at last year's Laver Cup. His greatest rivals Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray all shed tears after his final career match.

The 41-year-old is taking big strides in the fashion world post-retirement. He is set to be one of the co-chairs for the 2023 Met Gala in May, alongside other famous personalities such as Penelope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, and his longtime friend Anna Wintour.
