The women began 2nd round action as Victoria Azarenka was shocked by American Lauren Davis, going down 0-6, 6-7. Vika struggled with a foot injury which leaves her a doubt for Miami. Davis impressed and now plays fellow American (albeit, of Ukrainian descent) Varvara Lepchenko who defeated Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-2.
Frenchwoman Alize Cornet defeated Spaniard Silvia Soler in three sets, clearing one of her Spanish double-header as she gears up to now face Carla Suarez Navarro who, coincidentally beat another Frenchwoman in Kristina Mladenovic 6-3, 6-3.
No 18 seed, Canadian ‘Genie’ Bouchard defeated China’s Shuai Peng 6-2, 6-2 in emphatic fashion. Her next opponent is veteran Italian Sara Errani who smashed past another Canadian, qualifier Sharon Finchman 6-1, 6-1.
Serb seventh-seed Jelena Jankovic overcame Austrian Yvonne Meusberger 6-3, 6-1 in a simple match. She progresses to the 3rd round and now faces Magdalena Rybarikova who defeated American wildcard Shelby Rogers 6-4, 6-3.
German Annika Beck overcame 30th seed Russian Elena Vesnina in a see-saw battle 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. She now takes on second seed Agniezska Radwanska who defeated young Brit Heather Watson 6-4, 6-3.
Dane Caroline Wozniaki defeated Serbian Bojana Jovanovski 6-1, 6-3 and now the former world no.1 takes on Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova who upset Estonian 24th seed Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets.
Russian 26th seed Lucie Safarova defeated Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-3, 6-4 to set up a match against the in-form Simona Halep who overcame Japanese Kurumi Nara 6-2,6-2.
Italian Roberta Vinci defeated American Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 and progresses to take on Aussie qualifier Casey Dellacqua who upset Belgian no. 19 seed Kirsten Flipkens.

Chinese Taipei’s Yen-Hsun Lu beat Tobias Kamke and now plays German Phillip Kohlschreiber.
Russian veteran Nikolay Davydenko battled past Belgium’s lucky-loser David Goffin 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 and now plays American John Isner. Meanwhile, Dutchman Robin Haase advanced after beating John Patrick-Smith and now takes on ‘Baby Fed’ Grigor Dimitrov. Portuguese Joao Sousa beat Alexandr Nedvyaessov and now plays Latvian ‘Ernie’ Gulbis.
Jarko Nieminen beat Daniel Brands 4-6. 6-2, 6-2 and now plays another German in 25th seed Florian Mayer. Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut defeated Steve Johnson and now plays Czech Tomas Berdych. Spaniard Feliciano Lopez defeated Israeli Dudi Sela 7-5 6-3 and now plays Juan Martin Del Potro.
