Indians at the US Open so far
Defending champions Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek won their second round match against Yen-Hsun Lu and Jiri Vesely 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to the third round. The sixth seeds needed a tie-break in the first set before gaining the control of the match to win the second set.
Sania Mirza and Cara Black defeated twin sisters Karolina Pliskova and Kristyna Pliskova 6-3, 6-0 in the first round of the US Open.
Mirza and Bruno Soares of Brazil are top seeds in the mixed doubles draw. The pair won their opening round in a super tie-break against Tornado Alicia Black and Ernesto Escobedo. Mirza and Soares won the opening set 6-2 but dropped the next one 3-6. In the super tie-break the top seed raced to a 10-5 win.
Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi were beaten by Italian pair of Daniele Bracciali and Andreas Seppi in the first round. The India-Pakistan pair lost 6-7(10-12), 6-4, 6-7(5-7) in a hard-fought contest.
Third seed pair of Leander Paes and Cara Black also needed a super tie-break against Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Jean-Julien Rojer. Paes and Black won the opening set 6-4 but lost the second set 3-6. The super tie-break was also a tight affair but the third seeds emerged victorious with a score of 10-8.
Sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Katarina Srebotnik won without dropping a single point in the super tie-break to advance to the second round. Bopanna and Srebotnik beat American pair Nicholas Monroe and Lauren Davies 3-6, 6-2, 10-0.
