"Great to see that people are caring about the show, even caring about tennis" - Taylor Fritz elated by influence of Netflix's 'Break Point' series
Taylor Fritz has expressed his delight at the influence that Netflix's tennis documentary 'Break Point' has had in people around the world.
The Netflix series divulged the inside stories of some of the top players currently on the ATP and WTA tours, including Fritz. It was released on January 13, 2023, and featured five episodes covering the first half of the 2022 season from the Australian Open to the French Open.
While the TV ratings indicated that the tennis series did not garner enough viewers, Fritz feels that the show has induced a notable change in people's approach towards the game.
In a conversation on Break Point: A Netflix Recap Show podcast, the American observed that people are "caring" about the show and tennis in general.
"It's just great to see that people are caring about the show, even caring about tennis enough," he said.
Fritz acknowledged that people often recognize him when he is in Europe. However, he was surprised to see more fans coming up to him in the US in recent times, citing the impact of the tennis series.
"I would say I have been seeing myself... more people coming up to me over the past couple of months, whether I'm like out. I'd say it's been there when I'm in Europe and stuff."
He added:
"It's more common, people are more into tennis. But I think definitely since the show has come out especially, I can definitely see that more people seem into it in the States and I do find myself, more people coming up to me and talking to me in the US as well," the 25-year-old expressed.
Fritz is currently taking part in the Delray Beach Open. He beat Emilio Gomez in straight sets on Thursday in the opening match to earn qualification for the quarterfinals.
Taylor Fritz will face Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach Open
Top seed Taylor Fritz will lock horns with Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach Open on Friday.
Fritz will be keen to conquer greater heights in what has been a rather sub-standard season so far. He crashed out of the 2023 Australian Open in just the second round. Despite being the top seed, he failed to endure a deep run at the Dallas Open, losing out against Wu Yibing in the semifinals.
Taylor Fritz has met Mannarino on three occasions on tour before. Surprisingly, it is the French player who has the upper hand on the head-to-head record, winning two of them.
