Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini will take on second seed Alejandro Tabilo of Chile in the second round of the 2024 Generali Open. Berrettini is making a remarkable comeback in 2024 after recovering from injuries. The big-serving Italian has reached the final at three events this year - winning titles in Marrakech and Gstaad, and being the runner-up at the Boss Open in Stuttgart.

Berrettini has already bagged two clay-court titles this season. The former World No. 6 player won the Morocco Open earlier this year. He then won his second title of the year at the Swiss Open last week, defeating Quentin Halys in a one-sided final. Berrerttini also made the finals of the Stuttgart Open on grass, where he lost to upcoming British player Jack Draper.

Berrettini started with a tough match against Pavel Kotov in the first round of the Generali Open. Even though the Italian won in straight sets, he had to navigate through two tough tiebreaks.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Tabilo is having a breakthrough season in 2024. With an overall record of 26-13, the Chilean has made it to three tournament finals in this season. He won his maiden title at the ASB Classic, overcoming Taro Daniel in the final. Tabilo then won his second career title, winning the Mallorca Championships, getting past Sebastian Ofner in the final.

On the clay, Tabilo reached the final of the Chile Open, losing to Sebastian Baez. He also made it to the semi-finals of the Italian Open, losing to eventual champion Alexander Zverev in a tough three-setter. Tabilo secured a bye in the first round due to his high seeding at the Generali Open.

Matteo Berrettini vs Alejandro Tabilo prediction

Berrettini has extensively played in three clay-court tournaments this season. The Italian has a record of 10-1 on clay with two titles. He also has five career titles on the surface. His strong serve which has been recorded at a career-high of 146 mph, and an equally strong forehand make the former top 10 player a credible threat across surfaces.

Tabilo has showcased good skills on clay as well. The Chilean has a record of 11-8 on the red dirt in 2024 making it to the final of one event. Tabilo's performances have enabled him to break into the top 20 on the ATP Rankings. He attained a career-high ranking of 19 at the beginning of July. His current ranking stands at 21.

Both players have been in good form in recent times. However, Berrettini's form on clay and his experience of playing on the big stage gives the Italian the advantage in this encounter.

Pick- Matteo Berrettini to win in straight sets.
