Matteo Berrettini vs Nicolas Moreno De Alboran preview

Berrettini is on a high at the moment, having won the Swiss Open in Gstaad last week. His comeback from a long injury lay-off is proving to be a success. The former Wimbledon finalist is now showing his prowess on clay as well.

The 28-year-old Italian has won his two matches in Kitzbuhel by identical scorelines. He beat Pavel Kotov and Alejandro Tabilo by winning a couple of tie-breaks in each of the matches. The Italian had to fight hard in both of those matches but prevailed in the end.

Alboran, meanwhile, has been a surprise package in the tournament. He is ranked 143rd in the world at the moment but has displayed good form by winning his first two matches in the tournament. He also won his first two matches by an identical scoreline: 6-4 6-4. He beat Andrea Collarini in the first round and Lukas Neumayer in the second.

Matteo Berrettini vs Nicolas Moreno De Alboran prediction

Berrettini, a former World No. 6, is undoubtedly the more accomplished player of the two. The Italian has been serving pretty well, firing 22 aces in his first two matches in the tournament. His backhand could be a weak link, but he has improved his down-the-line backhand slice a lot, which could prove to be a very effective shot. He has also been moving around on the court in a very brisk manner.

However, Berrettini's return of serve has not been that great of late. Alboran will take heart from that and will try to hold his serve for as long as possible. The American is a solid player from the baseline but probably lacks the weapons to trouble Berrettini for long.

He should struggle to take a set off his opponent in Thursday's quarterfinal. However, should he be able to considerably improve his game, he might as well make a match of it.

Pick: Matteo Berrettini to win in straight sets.
