Emma Raducanu will square off against top seed Daria Kasatkina in a highly anticipated quarterfinal clash at the 2024 Korea Open on Friday, September 20.
Raducanu arrived in Seoul with an 18-12 match record for the season. Her best result so far was a semifinal run in Nottingham. She also reached the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, Eastbourne, and Washington. Her US Open campaign unfortunately ended prematurely in the first round against Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin.
Raducanu began her campaign in Korea with a tight 7-6(4), 7-6(5) victory over Peyton Stearns in the first round. She maintained that momentum in the second round, upsetting eighth seed Yuan Yue in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Kasatkina, meanwhile, entered Seoul with a 30-18 match record for the season. She won one title this year in Eastbourne, defeating Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-4 in the final. She also reached the final in Adelaide, Abu Dhabi, and Charleston, but lost to Jelena Ostapenko, Elena Rybakina, and Danielle Collins, respectively.
Seeded 12th at the US Open, her campaign came to a disappointing end in the second round where she lost to home favorite Peyton Stearns in straight sets 1-6, 6-7(3). Kasatkina kicked off her campaign in Korea in the second round after receiving a bye in the first. She dominated Hailey Baptiste to seal a 6-4, 6-2 victory over and book her berth in the last eight.

Emma Raducanu and Daria Kasatkina's quarterfinal clash promises to be an exciting match, given the strong form both players have been in recently.
Raducanu appeared to have put her disappointing US Open defeat behind her, displaying great performance in Korea so far. She has been lethal on serve and has come up trumps in the crucial moments. Additionally, her net play has also yielded positives when she has chosen to come forward.
Kasatkina was also in excellent form on serve in her opener. She dictated play from the back of the court brilliantly and maintained an impressive ratio of winners to unforced errors. Her backhand, in particular, was her main weapon and could pose a significant threat as the tournament progresses.
Kasatkina holds the advantage heading into this encounter, thanks to her consistency on the WTA tour and her superior form this season. Raducanu has not played nearly as many matches as Kasatkina and has reached the semifinals only once this year.
