Bianca Andreescu will open her 2024 Libema Open campaign against Eva Vedder in the first round on Tuesday, June 11.
Andreescu returned to action at the 2024 French Open after a 10-month injury absence. She beat Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo in her first match back since the US Open last year. She then shocked twenty-third seed Ana Kalinskaya in the second round, coming from one set down to seal an emphatic 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 win.
Up against eventual runner-up Jasmine Paolini in the third round, Andreescu started slow, dropping serve twice en route to losing the first set. The second set was a different story with her winning it on the back of some impressive baseline hitting. A flawless set from Paolini in the decider, however, cut short Andreescu's comeback.
Vedder, on the contrary, has primarily featured on the ITF circuit this season and is set to play her first WTA main draw match at the 2024 Libema Open.
She opened her campaign in the qualifiers against sixth seed Viktoria Hruncakova. Two routine sets saw her seal a 6-3, 7-6(5) victory. She was up 6-3 in the second round against seventh seed Eva Lys when the latter was forced to retire due to an injury.

Bianca Andreescu enters her first-round encounter against Eva Vedder the favorite given her greater experience at the WTA level and the good momentum she's carrying from the French Open. Vedder, as mentioned earlier, has scarcely featured on the professional circuit the last couple of seasons and is yet to play a WTA match this season. She is currently ranked 392 in the world.
Andreescu's return to the tour has been beyond impressive. She displayed glimpses of yore in the French capital despite her third-round exit. The change in the surface should suit her style of play and we could soon see her back at her very best.
It should be a routine victory for Andreescu. Vedder will have to serve incredibly well and use her doubles expertise to poach the net often if she is to have a chance of toppling the 2019 US Open champion.
