Maharashtra Open: Yuki Bhambri celebrates first win of 2018 by playing cricket on court; watch video
Yuki Bhambri has gotten off to a winning start in 2018 as he picked up a victory in straight sets over Arjun Kadhe at the Tata Open Maharashtra. He dispatched his opponent in 75 minutes and found time to cool off on the court and indulge in a playful back and forth with the crowd.
The 25-year old, who is known for keeping his calm and staying cool, was at his light-hearted best as he switched out his tennis racquet for a cricket bat and lobbed a few balls into the stands, displaying solid stroke playing skills.
He later posted this video on his Facebook page, humorously captioning it as “Should have played cricket” and also expressed his joy at having started the year off right with a win.
Well-wishing fans were quick to congratulate him before adding that they were happy to see him represent the nation with a racquet even as nearly everyone prefers the bat. The commentators were also jovial and joked along about Yuki’s not inconsiderable cricketing talents he had chosen to display on the tennis court.
Bhambri, who is now the world no. 116, is in action on Wednesday in his Round of 16 match against PH Herbert who is currently ranked 81st in the world.
