Maria Sharapova set to release her autobiography in 2017
Russian Tennis star Maria Sharapova is set to launch her autobiography about her career and life sometime in the middle of 2017, as announced in her official Facebook page. The 5-time Grand Slam champion recalled how she stumbled upon the idea for a book, in a casual book meeting last year.
“Back in December, I walked out of a casual book meeting and got inspired to live through my journey on paper. A few of my written paragraphs went around publishing offices and I received the unexpected honor to work with Farrar, Straus and Giroux on my very first book,” she said on her post.
The former world number 1, who started playing the sport at a very young age, stunned the tennis world in 2004, by beating reigning champion Serena Williams in straight sets in the Wimbledon final. By virtue of her incredible win, she became the third youngest woman to win the title at only 17 years of age.
Sharapova’s next major win came in the final of the US Open in 2006 when she defeated Justin Henin-Hardenne in straight sets. The Russian won her first Australian Open title in 2008, becoming the first tennis player from her country to do so.
The 28-year old continued to feature in the last 4 of almost all major Grand Slams, and won her first French Open in 2012. She bagged another one two years later in 2014. Since her appearance in her first final way back in 2004, Sharapova has played in 10 major finals, winning five and losing five.
The Russian’s book is set to include her story of her rise in tennis over the years and also her own personal life. Sharapova also has her own candy line brand, named ‘Sugarpova’. She has also endorsed a number of international brands and is one of the richest female tennis players.
